MALAYSIA’s badminton idol Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s sports centre in Penang was broken into early Wednesday morning.
About RM40,000 worth of goods were stolen, China Press reported.
The thieves also stole five Arowanas (freshwater bony fish) which belonged to Lee’s brother Chong Yin.
The daily also reported that it was believed the five Arowanas were the target since two empty bottles of medication, used for sedating fish, were found at the scene.
Chong Yin was informed about the break-in by a hawker at about 4am on Wednesday.
He suspected the thieves were clients of the sports centre who were familiar with the premise.
Instead of breaking the glass door of the main entrance, they used a hammer to break a hole in the wall of a store room on the ground floor before getting to the first floor where the Arowanas were kept, he said.
Besides his favourite Arowanas, the thieves also stole a laptop computer, an iPhone, RM1,000 and two bags of badminton rackets worth about RM10,000.
Lee C W Sports Centre, which was launched by Chong Wei, has been operating for over a year and this was the first time it had been broken into
